Hall seating refurbished after 30 years

Girsberger has restored one third of the seating at the FILharmonie culture and congress centre in the Stuttgart region. The project involved renewing seat padding and upholstery fabrics, and polishing and readjusting the frames of the intensively used individual chairs.

The large district town of Filderstadt is located in the southern hub of Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg. Filderstadt plays an important economic role in the region due to its central location and ideal transport links, thanks to the nearby airport and direct access to the motorway and suburban rail network. In addition to this, however, the town is also an important cultural location.

The cultural and congress centre FILharmonie, built in 1994, offers a variety of spaces for conferences, cultural events, seminars and celebrations, and is a gathering place for the entire region. After almost 30 years of intensive use, around 360 of a total of 1,200 chairs have been refurbished by Girsberger. The blue upholstery fabric of the stackable chairs was replaced, half in anthracite and half in red, and the frames were readjusted and polished. Given the wide and flexible range of possible uses for the venue, all of the chairs can be moved around and are fitted with connecting elements for panic safety and row numbering.

The town council, in commissioning Girsberger to carry out this project, made it clear that restoring the existing furniture and thereby enhancing its sustainability was extremely important. Restoration work can extend the life of furniture by many years, and enable the venue’s trademark furniture to continue to be used.
