Theater Basel, Switzerland
Theater Basel was opened on 6 October 1834. Back then, it was called Theater auf dem Blömlein. The theatre has a long history steeped in tradition. The current theatre building was constructed over a period of six years and finished in 1975.
In 2010, the Office of Civil Engineering of the City of Basel approved the renovation of the seating for the Kleine Bühne stage. During an eight-week period, a total of 458 theatre chairs were dismantled and covered with new saddle leather. All the metal frames were checked and the tension springs replaced. All the folding seats were then delivered on time.
In 2010, Theater Basel was chosen for the second time in a row as Opera House of the Year in a survey of critics by the opera magazine Opernwelt.
